I was curious what material was used on custom soloists in '87 for the nut?

No ideas? Just for clarification I'm not talking about the behind the nut lock. I looked at it again and I don't think it plastic. I was wondering if it was worth upgrading to something better. It would be nice to know what it's made of to make a better decision.

The Charvel model series from the same time period used a phenolic nut, which looked similar, but I can't confirm it's the same as the US counterpart. Hell, I ain't sure what the hell phenolic is anyways!

Thanks for the info, but I'm not finding any info on the net about a phenolic nut.

It's a multi-faceted faux diamond, just like one you'd find on a ring. Someone removed wood from the headstock and glued this diamond in it. It's hard to photograph.

Graphite? If it is that's good, I think I'll leave it as is. Interesting indeed!
