Wire it according to the color code on that web site I gave you.It will be wired the same as the old pick up.Last position on the switch for bridge pick up.
I prefer the older BL 500 a much fatter pick up.IMO

This is exactly what I did.. The weird thing is that I get what seems to be an out of phase sound, very thin and nasal, from my second position on the switch. Maybe my switch is dead?
Hehe, the out of phase thing isn't exactly my cup of....Well, anything really I'm gonna resolder the red and black wires tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.
This is my first time trying to solder stuff, I had to change the volume-pot as well, so I was kinda afraid that I got some wires switched around..
If this is what the XL sounds like then I'm not all that impressed..I think it sounds kinda single-coily..Am I doing this wrong?
It could be that you got the wrong one. There was a thread around here by metalchurch79, that goes into great detail about the differences between the two. It is confusing since the impostor PU is called the Bill Lawrence. I can't seem to locate the thread through the search.

I take issue with you calling the California ones "fakes" or impostors". They are good pickups, built using the original equipment. They may not sound exactly the same as Bill & Becky's but Unfortunately there is/was a dispute involving former business partners that resulted in 2 different companies selling similar stuff.
I guess a better description would be, the original L-500XL. What I meant was that there are 2 L-500XL pickups out there to purchase and only one of them is the original XL.

Hehe, I got what you call the fake one, it says Bill Lawrence USA on the top. It sounds like a high output 'bucker to me, but it sounds like it got a single coil-like snap to it..Can this have something to do with me soldering it out of phase in the second and fourth positions?
