Trying to copy Metallica's "clean" distortion

I'm trying to copy Metallica's "clean" distortion.
What I mean is that the souns is very "noisy", but it doesn't sound like a huge wall of noises, each note is clearly hears.
I'm having difficulties figuring out how to copy this distortion. The best example of the sound I'm aiming to is Master of Puppets kind.

Any help?

I have a Dinky DXMG and Ibanez TBX30R amp.

I believe they used an ADA MP-1 for cleans. I'd try some medium to light compression and very light chorus.

You need a MESA/Boogie Mark IIC+.

You will mow many lawns for this.

Oh, I think I misunderstood. You want that distortion sound? Mesa Mark IIC+.

Yeah, Mark IIC+ with a tube screamer in front is the secret to that sound (The tube screamer adds the SHHK SHHK SHHK to the pick attack on the downstrokes.) If you have a modeller that does the Mark IIC+ you should be able to get pretty close. The Digi 11 Rack can pretty much nail it, I'd imagine the AxeFX can too. If you can get a real M.IIC+ head or combo just set the 5 band EQ to a V shape and all the controlls to the middle to start, tweak from there.

The tubescreamer controls should be something like Drive/Distortion around 2-3, tone 11:00 or so, volume 7.5ish. The amp doesn't need to be set up with tons of gain because the TS will be slamming the front. Set the amp to a medium crunchy tone.

The Mesa Mark V will also get very close to the C+ tone.

If you can get a real M.IIC+ head or combo just set the 5 band EQ to a V shape and all the controlls to the middle to start, tweak from there.

Try Treble 7-10, Bass & Mids < 2 and the GEQ middle frequency full cut, the inner bands nearly full boost and the outer bands slightly below that.

Run your presence up high as well. Then turn up the master and the preamps down to cut the fizz.

Then add all the studio magic you can find.

That pickup is the closest I've managed to get to the MOP tone.

It is a great pickup. I put a pair in an old Kelly XLR I had. I miss that guitar.

RTL was Marshalls, MOP was Boogies. AJFA was studio EQ'd crap. Man I loved the sound on AJFA when I was a kid, but the sound just doesn't hold up at all.

How should I tune my amp so I could get as close as possible to that MOP sound?
Is there some online source for this (and other songs)?

What's the difference between Ibanez's Tube Screamer and Boss's MT-2 (which I was looking into)? It seems Boss's pedal has far more options for altering the distortion sound.
