Wiring and Pots

I have been informed that different gauge wiring and different brand of pots with the same impedance can change tone and output. Is this true? I always thought that a 500k pot was a 500k pot no matter who made it or what it came out of. If so what (if any) is the best wiring kits and pots you can purchase on today's market for hum bucking pickups? Pickup examples JB, Jazz, duncan distortion, dimarzio breed etc. Thanks

I've been changing out all my guitars with these kits. I love them. I feel that they both sound better and function better.
