So the other day i come across a very interesting licensed Floyd rose bridge that my Luthier gave to me. The strings would appear to go through the middle of the locking bolts? It doesn't look the speedloaders I have seen

My low-end 1999 RG has a single lock trem like this:
You just insert the strings through the bolts and the ball holds them in place, like a string-through. Locks normally at the nut. I think it holds tuning ok, but a real floyd holds and feels better. Never really abused a trem though, so YMMV.

There was a Floyd Rose 2 before that which was also single-locking from the mid '80s.

Schaller eventually changed the Floyd II into double-locking which is like their own Schaller version.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
