Anyone try a Dimarzio Super Distortion or Super 3 in a basswood body?

Yeah great pick up choice for basswood.
Super D has lots of mid range and super 2 or 3 has a bit more highs but still very smooth.

Sounds awesome in my Fender HM Strat. That's the guitar the Super 3 was developed to go into, BTW, so you know it was designed for basswood. That should ease your mind.

Got a DM Super Distortion in my basswood Jackson fusion XL and IMO, it sounds 'hollow' in the mids, something it didn't remedy swapping out the stock Pup
If my Super3 wasn't doing so well in my RR1 I'd swap it and try that, since the 3 is very mid heavy with rolled off highs

I ordered one for my 90's Jackson Pro given that all my PC1's have the Super 3 and love how it sounds in those guitars. Dark and heavy!

I have had a super distorition in Basswood, alder, ash and mohogany body guitars and it seems to always work out very well. The super 3 was kind of peeky in an alder body but was good in the mohogany bodied PC1s I used to have. I had a super 3 in an 89 fender HM strat and it was hollow and shrill so I took it out and put a duncan custom 5 in.

I don't know how similar the Super Distortion is to a SD distortion, but I used one in a model series Charvel for years and it sounded great. To my ears anyway.

Fairly similar. I think the Super Distortion is a little hotter, but there's not too much difference to my ear.

The super D sounds great on any guitar I've ever had it installed in, regardless of body wood.

I used to think that till I put one in a 2006 Gibson Flying V with an Ebony board. It turned out thin and Ice Picky. But love it in my Rhoads Pro and Strat.

You must have had a bad one or you had the coil split switch on. My Super 3 sounds great in my HM Strat. Nice and fat.
