Will my nut be too big?

I'm looking at a guitar with a bone nut. It's currently strung with 11's and I will most likely want to put 9's on it.

Assuming it's been setup right, the slots were probably widened to accomodate the thicker strings. What issues might I run into if my nut slots are a little too wide?

I guess this could be called a loose nut problem vs a big nut

At most they'd be so deep as to cause the strings to flap against the strings. However, I'd be inclined to doubt the nut was set up for 11s, just because of the suspicion I have of the average guitarist not knowing or caring about such a thing.

That's a good point. I sometimes forget that not everyone is like us....taking out the ruler and measuring millimeters of action height
