  • Question about Original Floyd Rose trems.

Did they make a OFR speedloader back in the day? I just picked up a cheap Kramer off Craigslist just because it had a Floyd Rose on it. When I saw it I noticed it was a speedloader. I know they had Floyd Rose II's that were speedloaders in the 80's, but this is clearly marked Floyd Rose, not Floyd Rose II.

No. The speed loader is relatively recent - maybe ten years old. They look different and have a different nut. They also use special strings.

I think steinberger had a similar unit going way back, though.

Also, based on the pics you posted on usacharvels, your Kramer has a regular Floyd Rose.

Oh yeah that's a Floyd 2. Junk. Single locking. Still not a Speedloader. Never seen one not marked Floyd Rose II, but that's what it is.

hmm... I only paid $75 for the guitar so I still think I got a decent deal on it.

Ive never had a FR II. Whats bad about them?

Problem is they dont lock at the bridge, so you lose tuning stability, for the sake of quicker string changes, bad trade off IMO

See how you go, you may like it, cant go wrong for $75!

Change the saddles to the better double locking version for about $18 from Stew Mac and you now have a true OFR. Just make sure that the base plate and knife edges are in good shape before and swap.

It's a good bridge to block really, the tone isn't bad at all and the fine tuners are nice to have, but as a tremolo it's kind of lacking, yeah.

Didn't know Stewmac had these so cheap. I had a nice black FR II with locking saddles and a brass sustain block.

Those came on the Kramer Striker series in the mid 80's. I noticed in the late 80's (?) the 'II' appeared. I had a Striker 100 (same exact trem, plywood body) and traded up to a Focus 1000 (OFR, not plywood) then bought a Charvel (1987), and forgot who Kramer was. I know they changed the shape of the logo too, both of mine had the small one. These are foggy memories from around 24-25 years ago, so the dates would be in question. DAMN I feel old......

I have a no name copy of the single locking trem on my Warslinger. I pulled it out of the case the other day after a year cause I need an EMG to try out with my amp. It was still in perfect tune. Try it before you junk it or modify it. You may like it.

Wont those saddles be too thin with the long bolt and not the fat bolt like the jt590?
