Yes, that's probably it. I'm sure my soldering is causing the pots to make scratching noises when I turn them, and despite wiring up several dozen guitars in the past I've suddenly forgotten how.

Sounds like the problem may be light corrosion in the input jack barrel. They can get tarnished and you'll get an intermittent ground contact. It usually doesn't act like a bad jack that has frayed wiring or what-not. When I find this issue I use the electronic cleaner on a paper towel wrapped around a 1/4 jack, then I just just start jamming it in and out of the jack until it cleans up the barrel.

I've had this issue recently on a Japan Jackson and a USA G&L. It doesn't seem to be a quality issue, maybe beer got in there. Maybe the cord came out and dropped in some stage beer and then was plugged in wet, lol.

It's either that, or gremlins.

Funnily enough before I looked at the date I was going to suggest the same thing. Cover a 1/4 plug in cleaner and fuck the shit out of the input jack porn-star style to make sure it's not a flaky contact there.

The issues with both guitars were resolved by replacing or cleaning the pots... Nothing wrong with the jacks.

I haven't bought any more pots lately so hopefully that was just some short-term BS.
