Coil tap on an SL2HT

I want to tap the coil on the neck 'bucker only. The SD diagram indicates I can just buy a push\pull volume and wire the red and white to the middle taps of the pot and tie off the bridge red and white as usual and I should be all set, correct?

No idea on the pot, that looks like kind of an oddball fine spline but you would need one of those little brass adapters to use your stock solid shaft knob in any case, as I have never seen solid shaft push-pulls, although I guess they are out there somewhere. http://www.allparts.com/Brass-Pot-Sl...p-0220-008.htm

Anyway on the wiring, you wire the red and white to the middle and then either the bottom or top lug ("top" being the side closest to the knob) on the same side goes to ground. The top if you want the coil split to be active when the pot is in the "up" position and the bottom if you want it active when the pot is in the "down" position.

The way the wiring is implied in that diagram, the switch would be in the "up" position to get humbucking operation, which isn't what I would want, but that's up to you.

Nope. Look at where the switch tabs are in relation to the pot casing: Up is grounding the Red and White, which means it's split in the Up position.

Noisy on the tapped pup, or both? Is this due to each pup having a different reference? Noise on the tapped pup isn't a concern for me, as a normal single coil is very noisy.

If you follow the same orientation then the "bottom" set of lugs is the one that's grounded in the other schematic, which means that R&W are grounded in the "down" position, which as you know means the coil split is active in the "down" position.

Depends on the orientation of the unit. In the full-set diagrams, the push/pull is always shown as a complete unit (pot and switch) mounted to a pickguard and viewed from the bottom.
Thus, in those diagrams, Up is always closest to the pot casing.

As an aside, I like how the Push/Pull diagram has Position #1 and Position #3, but no Position #2

I always like to pick the outers from each hum for a coil tap, it gives the single coil sound with the volume of a series hum without the noise of a single coil. At least it does on mine, but the JE-1200 might have something to do with the volume!

Ah, I see what you mean. I thought the other diagram was explaining the push/pull layout for the wiring diagrams, too.

Interesting. I have a JE1200 on my model 6, but not on the SL2HT. Interestingly enough, the model 6 has an HSS config, though they're stacked singles.
