  • Fred and Paf Pro in the same guitar question.

Who should go where and why? I use mostly SD pickups and don't know a lot about Dimarzios. They are going into an old Yamaha guitar with I think basswood body, pickguard and Floyd trem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The PAF Pro is my favorite neck pickup which is in a basswood body. Can't comment on the Fred as I never used one.

Satch seemed to prefer the Fred in his basswood Ibbys. When he switched to the mahogany ones, he changed from the Fred, IIRC.

PAF Pro is a great neck pickup, I use one in my RR1. Fred is a bridge model I believe. PAF Pro can be used in either position. I don't think there are differently wound neck/bridge versions of it. I have the DP151 model.

I am pretty sure I have a PAF Pro in the bridge of a USA BC Rich ST-III. Sounds pretty good. I've never checked the back, but the DC resistance and black hex poles are correct. A Super D would have chrome poles and a higher DC resistance.

Satch's standard go to pickup combo was Fred bridge Paf Pro neck.
Now he uses the Mo Joe and Paf Joe.
