Fret Doctor is basically bore oil with an incredible markup and maybe some "fragrance" oils added. I just got regular Roche-Thomas brand bore oil for about 7 bucks for 2 ounces. Works Great. One ounce of Fret Doctor is about 20 bucks.

I use Kyser Dr. Stringfellow, basically lemon oil. Same deal, every 3rd or 4th string change on Rosewood, my Ebony usually just needs wiped off, same with my Maple board.

Wow, that looks like ebony! What does it look like after it dries?

The rosewood can live without the oil, since it's naturally oily, but I wouldn't let the ebony board go too often without oil since it can dry out and crack.

I also use FretDoctor on my guitars and all other I do work on.
I really don't care when people says it is expensive, I have something like
14-15 guitars (+the many more that have passed through for refret, levelling, crowning,
service, setup and whatnot) and my current bottle have lasted for a couple of years,
so cost isn't really an issue here.
Main thing is, it's working for me and it's the best oil I have found so far.
