I just bought a used Dimarzio Super 3 for my 1988 model A and was curious if I just needed to solder it in place of the stock pickup or if I needed to upgrade everything? Actually I'd like to put a push pull on it to split the coils... I would assume that is about all there is to do with this guitar since it is just a single humbucker guitar.

You can totally just solder it in to your guitar as long as the stock pickup is a passive pickup. For a push-pull pot to split you'd have to wire up the two connections for the two coils. -
