Does anyone else install their strings "backwards? on a Floyd?

I have been installing my strings "backwards" on my guitars for well over 20 years.



the advantages are:

1. the strings dont slip when your tightening them and slide out of the post. I find it easier to install them.

2. the ball end is not sharp and doesnt poke your fingers.

3. the ball end does not snag a polishing cloth

4. it looks alot more professional and cleaner than the cut string ends.



does anyone else install their strings like this??

anyway, if you havent tried it before, give it a try next time. no disadvantages to it that I can see. I just thought I would throw it out there for anyone that hasnt tried it.

Do the ball ends ever rattle or anything when you play?

The only issue I've ever encountered doing it that way is the wraps at the ball end will eat into the posts after a while.

However, I do feed them in from the posts and then clip the excess.

I never polish my guitars, so snags are not an issue

It looks pretty neat on yours compared to some squirrely messes I've seen but personally thats why I use locking tuners on my guitars. It just looks so much more tidy...

I used to, but, I use the Planet Wave locking tuners now. They trim the excess off while you are tuning so it makes no difference how you feed the strings through.-Lou

Nope and what Newc said about the posts. Plus, you would still have to clip off the end of the string that is not wound over anyway before locking it into the saddle.

Yeah, I do it like that. Works for me and I've never had issues with the posts. Plus, you only have to cut the string once, and I'm lazy

I do, but I only have one guitar with a floyd. Locking tuners FTW!

thats interesting...... I have done this with 17 guitars, and I have never had any problems with the ball ends digging into the posts. strange.... I thought this method was cooler than the side of the toilet bowl on a 3am puker.

I can't even see the tuners on either of these pics because my eyes can't get past the missing truss rod covers.
