@toejam - Poplar body wood
@neptoess - No, thats not mint, coz there's a dent in one of the horns of the V......
and I can't buy until June at least..... I just wish he responds to the message I sent him, I had to make a fake e-bay account (i want to make a real one, but can't make it till Aug 16, 2012, darn)
And I am not a collector, I AM A PLAYER, but yeah, a Mustaine enthusiast....
I just wish a that guitar or another KV1 could be mine, although I would change the pickups to JB-4/Jazz set... add new controls and make it my own

Err, why make a fake account?

So I made an epic mistake mixing up Paul Bailoff and Chuck Billy -_-. Either way, I'm not sure you should be putting jazz/jb in a kv1 and all that EMG crap (there are pedals like GE-7 for that imo) in it. Have you ever used a kahler or a jazz/jb set or that emg stuff or a killswitch or held a poplar bodied V(heavy!). If you get a KV1 please dont hack it up. Get a KV2 for that if you must hack a guitar apart. A KVXT would be even better for a project guitar. You've only been playing a year and all this stuff probably sounds really cool, but again I think you're considering dropping serious coin for stuff you'll likely not like or not use. Every teenage guitarist dreams up an amazing guitar that they laugh about years later. I wanted a 24 fret rhoads with a kahler for years, until I played a kahler, and bought a 24 fret ibanez only to realize the extra 2 frets never get used. Now, I realize an RR1 would be perfect. Or a KV2T. I like mahogany short scales alot. You'd be better off sticking with cheaper stuff until you know what you really need in a guitar. I had been playing for half a decade before I realized how ridiculous my "teenage dream gear" was for meLast edited by neptoess; 04-10-2012, 12:16 PM.

As a nearly 30 year old, I've got plenty of ridiculous wants in terms of gear...but they're very different from my wants as a teenager. Personally, I'd get a few cheaper guitars for the price of the custom order, overhaul them yourself and see what you like. What Dave loves might not be what you love at all.
Better to learn that now with a cheaper guitar and lose less money (and time, with an 18 month turnaround from the custom shop). Hell, if it comes to custom guitars I'd even recommend looking around (we've got people here like Sully and plon who do custom builds, then there's numerous shops that do them as well). I love Jackson/Charvel guitars, but I'm not 100% sure I'd deal with the issues others have reported from doing custom orders. Plus, the days of Grover running the joint are long gone...
Just my $.02. Do what makes you happy, but for the cash you'd drop on that order...I could think of a lot more fun to have.

These get a lot of credibility on the import forum here as amazing project guitars. The new X series are actually pretty damn nice in my opinion. The necks are just as good if not better than some of the early 2000s Japanese Jacksons I've played (DK2, RR3, KE3), and they're real neckthrus. You'll get basswood, which is a little darker than maple, but it'll give you a pretty damn good idea of what you like pickup-wise. My Ibanez is basswood with a quilted maple top, and my L-500s were way too bright in it, so I could tell right then going to an alder/maple neck-thru with L-500s is out of the question for me. Being a maple neck-thru, a vast majority of the tone comes from the actual wood used in the neck. Though basswood is noticeably warmer than alder, in a neck-thru, the difference will be much less noticeable. You'll just know that going to alder or poplar wings will be slightly brighter than the basswood. I think that's your best option. You can pick one up brand new for under $600, and change anything and everything you see fit. You might even find out that you hate Vs in general. You definitely have to get used to playing them sitting down. Here's me playing mine without a strap for an idea
