That sound is really wierd. I'm not sure about the push/pull usage - on my model 4 which has toggles rather than the 5-way switch the active boost circuit is always on, but the rotation of the pot just adjusts the level. Maybe another forum member can confirm if their guitar has a push/pull?

The volume pot needs to be 50 K ohm, you can get away with EMG's 25 K ohm if you're in a pinch. If it's 250 K ohm or higher that could be the issue right there. The best way to use a push/pull in that guitar with that circuit would be if it was a 50 or 25 K ohm pot you can split the bridge hum into a single coil tone for a thinner sound, but then, with the mid boost circuit why would you want that?!"Got a crazy feeling I don't understand,
