Duncan Pickup Options for a Les Paul

What Duncan pickups have you guys put in your Les Pauls? I usually play metal & hard rock. Emg's don't do it for me.

I like the JB/Custom hybrid...

Custom in the bridge, Jazz or 59 in the neck.
May also like the Alternative 8, which is a Custom with an Alnico 8 magnet in it. Made for metal and low tuning. Sounds awesome.

Hard to go wrong with a Jazz or '59 in the neck.

I keep hearing a Duncan custom in the bridge awesome. Is the guitar too bright or to muddy and go from there.

I prefer Gibson pickups but...

On the SD forums, Pearly Gate is popular for the neck. If I was going Duncan, I'd go Custom as well.

Please explain what is wrong with the EMG's. Hard to tell you where to go without knowing what the problem is.

I'd look at SD's that were brighter; due to the Les Paul's natural warm sound. Maybe a Full Shred in the neck and a Distortion in the bridge.

Depends on the guitar. I have a pair of Seth Lovers in my Gibson LP, but the bridge isn't hot enough for metal so I had a JB in there when I was in a gigging band playing stuff like Megadeth and Metallica.
Lots of people don't like the JB in a Les Paul, but mine is particularly bright, and the JB worked great in it.

I would say pretty much any PAF style will work in the neck - 59, PG, Seth, they'll all do metal lead playing great. I have the Seth in mine, like I said, and in my Epi LP Custom a 59.

Thanks for the replies, I'm thinking a Jazz in the neck, and a Custom in the bridge.
The only JB I've liked was in a mahogany body guitar it really sounded good. To my ears the JB can sound shrill sometimes.

I have a JB/59 in my Mahogany TN01, sounds great.

DonP, nothing wrong with EMG, I just am not a big fan of them, I have used 81's, 85's and "s" single coils in the past, and much prefer the sound of passive pickups.
