I've never paid $300 for a refret. For stainless frets it's more in the $200 range, less for nickel since they're easier to work with.

I've never paid more than $200 for a refret (Nickle Jumbo frets).
I'm sure SS is a bit more, but $300?

              Sully does good work.
There's also guys on ebay or craiglist who are hungry who offer refrets at very competitive prices, however, I would take it to someone who is certified repair capable and that backs their work with some guarantee.
You get what you pay for, last refret I had done was on a Warmoth neck and it cost me 80.00. This was in 86. The Warmoth nickels only lasted a few years. The guy didn't bevel the frets enough, so when I picked it up I mentioned it and, he agreed to fix it. I could hear him swearing mixed with russian as he was beveling downstairs. (This was Petes Guitar in St Paul) That was when I got fucked on my Strat neck.

Personally, I would not pay 300+ for a refret unless it included a plek.

That's cool, but they make such a wide and deep cut for them I would be afraid the strength of the neck would be changed, let alone the cost!!!

3 places in town were all around 300.

I'm going with the guy i've known for a while, used to work at the parker usa shop.

All the refrets I've had done included a setup, which will add to the cost. I wouldn't want somebody handing me a raw refretted neck without stringing it up and verifying everything is playing nice and smooth and there are no surprises or oh-by-the-ways. I think Mike's 10-15/fret quote is the most accurate here if we are talking quality work.

Had the '79 strat refretted last year for about $150 and it was a good job, but they f*cked up somewhere and there's glue on the 18th fret, 5th and 6th strings that I can't get off.
                            I like EL34s.

I charge $250 including a complete setup. Obviously, I charge a little more for bound necks, finished necks and necks with binding over frets.
