Good idea really simple and effective.
Back in the day we used two wood screws with flat heads that the trem base plate rested on.

I'd be concerned about rattle when it is unlocked, with no pressure on the bolt.
And forget about using more than two springs (I typically use three or four) as
you wouldn't be able to reach the lever.

I am tempted to try tis on a cheap guitar though.

Well it does state you might need heavier springs
but about rattling when disengaged: nothing an elastic band from the handle to the tremclaw wouldn't fix
or a drop of glue to make it pinch

It would be hard to fit a hammer in the trem cavity to block it. You'd have to find a really small hammer..
