Northern Ash is what they made mid seventies strats out of, they're very dense, often quite Les Paul'ish in weight. So, if the body seems heavy like maple, but its not maple, then its NA. As mentioned - Northern Ash differs from Swamp Ash, and even from Sen - Japanese Ash or Ash. If its cut a bit green, its also going to affect the tone a bit more. I tried a custom custom in a NA body, I didn't care for it.
I preferred Dimarzio Super Distortion for the NA - older ones w/the the braided wire from the 70's - early 80's.

Well, Ive just sent off my broken EVH Art Series pickup for a rewind. so I`ll try that for an option. I`ll also have a root through that EVH forum. and see what other poeple have put in.

And Where would I find a 70s 80s Dimarzio Super distortion from?.. They sound rare ( Whatts the difference between a modern one and the original?)
