Got Model 6 back from Guitar Tech, neck pup lags

He unfortunately couldnt put my je1200 back in after removing the emg's which had replaced it asthe other tech had fried the board (that company has now gone under, Allans Billy Hyde funny cause they owned 25% of themarket here).


My guitar was

EMG81
Dead J200
EMG SA

with JE1200 removed.

Now my M6 is;

J90c
J200
J200

No je1200 as its fried.


He showed me instore how hes wired it up right n etc except now the switch for the neck when flipped lags before it comes on.

What could be the cause of this?

those J-200's have very weak output without the pre-amp, I have a model 6 with an 81 in the bridge, the J-200's are basically useless.

I think emg has a passive preamp that will work. someone else will have to help out there. Other wise I would get a hold of some of the singles that were in the model 3s. I didn't like mine even with the midboost working.

So the lag is caused by having no JE1200? I was thinking about having no midboost for awhile see how i go, i dont mind the J200's.

J200's will sound very dark with out the mid boost.
I have a harness but you need to find the original wiring diagrams so it works right.
I remember them being posted here long ago.

Compared to the output of the EMG81, how wouldn't they be useless?

They sound great in the setting they were designed for.

I remember when i had the j200's active when i first had the EMG81 put in the volume difference was absolutley gigantic!

I'll give it a month before deciding on a JE1200 replica, what could be cause the neck pick up lag though?

Maybe the switch is going bad and needs to be replaced.

the best way to try the circuit is making a board with the components and try every one of then with a multimeter...
i'm studying electronic engineering and did this with an ibanez gsa60--- ended up changing the pups with 3 dimarzios, 2 single brian may edition dp206 neck and middle, and a tone zone s dp189 in the bridge position, being this last one installed in a common humb place... so theres a lot of air in the back of the pup, and makes a strange effect... the fact is that the 3 original pups where burned, because the output jack was in short circuit...

take it all to an electronic tech... don't waste your time with people without experience...

My guess (same as Toe - a bad switch) is that the switch has dirt in it preventing an immediate connection, but as the dirt get's pushed aside it makes contact. Maybe someone oiled the switch and the oil is gunking it up?

I would spray it out with contact cleaner while you work the switch back and forth. That should free up any offending gunk.

The guitar also now has a loud hum when all the toggles are switched off.

Does the Tone use the same pot as the midboost? Or what type of pot do i need for the je1200?

Think i'll get the pot made dead and moved n have the Vol top Mid boost middle n tone last n switched off.
