Odd question: Pots

So there's linear and logarithmic

Now I know the difference between the 2
but when it comes to adding overdrive (y'know, using the guitar's volume to go from clean to distortion on the amp)
isn't a linear pot a better choice for this?
I would think, since the signal will increase more gradually you'll have more control over the amount of distortion

or am I wrong in looking at it like this?

All the guitar pots I use are Log ,audio taper.
Same with gain stages on my amps.
