Marr in paint finish

One of my guitars has a slight marr in the paint, like a scuff, from hitting the guitar against something. So the defect I believe is only in the laquer. I would like to remove this . .. .can I use rubbing compound to buff it out? If not, what else may I try that is safe to use?
