  • Floyd Rose base plate kaput. Where to get a new one?

Hello people. I have a 1997 sl1 that I acquired some months ago. Its plate blades are dead. They are chipped and it constantly goes out of tune. I will probably need a new base plate along with a pair of new pivot studs. I looked around but other than http://www.musiciansarsenal.com/ofrshimsplates.aspx this site I couldn't find anywhere that has them. And I have trust issues when it comes to random sites. Was ondering if any of you people know any other site that has them.

Before any of you ask, no i don't have the money for a whole new floyd system these days. I wish i did.

Considering the money that you'd put into a base plate and new studs, I'd honestly probably keep an eye out for a good deal on a good condition, used, complete OFR. Probably wouldn't cost that much more.

A new system costs me 230 bucks. Plate and studs cost something like 80. Even a second hand deal would cost around 150 and plus the fact it would be a used trem which I don't feel strongly about. Thanks for the reply anyway.

Oh this is the same site I found the base plate. Are they any good? I might just go for it and buy it from them.

Just stick the saddles off the OFR and you'll be set. They have the same dimensions but the saddles and trem block are zink. They're the about same price as getting just the baseplate

Another option is an FRT-1000 Korean Floyd. They are nice trems. Here is a black one on Ebay with studs, arm, claw, and springs for $79.99. And they ship internationally.

You're just never going to find a new OFR baseplate. Period. That's the most important part of the unit, and the one FR keeps the tightest control on.

Some of the "parts mongers" on Ebay are completely stripping new units and selling everything (spring plate, block, fine tuners, intonation screws, etc). However, that's almost always the Korean/Chinese models, never a new German unit.

That seems to be the case Newc. I am probably going to block the trem for now and wait a month or two till I save up enough for a new bridge. Thanks for the input everyone.

I've dealt with musicians arsenal many times. They are Floyd Rose USA, just operating under that name. Those base plates are legit, German made. You CAN buy them new right there http://www.musiciansarsenal.com/trem...eplatex-1.aspx

Good luck mate. I would buy a complete tremolo myself.

Don't sweat it Brother. I've dealt with them numerous times before. Check it out for yourself, they are www.apintl.com, they just have Musicians Arsenal for an online outlet for parts. I worked in the Dean Guitars Custom shop and ap international is where the shipments from Germany end up for US distribution. I have replaced a few plates for the same reason as you for customers. If everything else is fine with the tremolo unit, then this is the smartest way to go. No need to replace the whole unit.

^That's good info to know. I'd think it would be to their advantage to better explain who they are on the website. Would probably help their sales!
