Hello all,
I have a 2013 Charvel San Dimas HS HT which has a Single Duncan Classic Stack in the neck Position. I find that it sounds a bit thin and twangy for my liking. Sounds like a cross between a Strat and a Tele.
What I would like is something warmer , richer and fuller but not giving up the clarity of the high strings. I was thinking a Hot Rail or Cool rail. I have 2 Hot rails in my 2006 Jackson Sl3 which are hard to judge as that guitar is fully on the warmer side. The JB4 in the bridge position is down right amazing. It's rich and lush with powerful tone but has some grace. I have never played another guitar with that level of punch and drive out of that pickup. Only the SL3 has that sound. My San Dimas loaded TB4 doesn't have the same drive force warmth or power. It does have some of the tonality but not an equal by no stretch.
The Hot rail I was thinking would probably bring some balance to my HS HT as it needs some of that sparkle removed. I'm no fan of that sound as I don't write or play anything that requires that type of sound. I"m a Heavy Metal left over 80's guitar player and love nothing more then a Fender Twin with a beautiful Warm neck position pickup with some light Delay and Chorus running. At times I run Reverb but light, never overpowering. I like to add effects to my sound not make them my sound. It's something I learned many years ago less is more.
So does anyone have any other suggestions? Or is the Hot rail right up my alley? I'm super tempted to take the bridge Position one out of my Jackson and hear how it sounds. I actually had this crazy Idea that the Classic Stack might actually work very well in that guitar to give it some needed sparkle it lacks.
