Neck pocket mod question

I've got a MIJ Fernandes Strat with a standard Fender 2 3/16" neck pocket and I want to install an aftermarket neck that measures 2 .22" at the heel.

I do not want to alter the body so I assume that I can fine sand the neck to better make it fit.

How exactly will that work with the whole heel and fretboard? For what its worth its a maple slab neck.

Block sand each side of the heel equally with 120 grit paper to size it down and then sand it up to 320. The pocket is 2.1875, so you don't really have much to take off. Is the neck clear coated? If so, then you're most likely going to go through the clear coat and will need to touch that up. If it's oiled, then just re-oil it.
