Can an input jack from an active pickup set be used for passives if the battery lead is disconnected?

Sure, just wire the signal to the tip, and the ground to the sleeve. Wire it like a normal 2 wire jack, just ignore the ring connection. -
Or you can leave the battery lead connected to give the passives a bit more oomph!
