These days, the lines are more blurred (a good thing, as it limits pigeonholing), as I've noticed ESPs coming stock with Duncans, and more Charvels with DiMarzios.
But I remember about a decade ago, you could generalize, with a few exceptions, that a stereotypical Jackson guitar came loaded with Duncan pickups, Ibanez with DiMarzio, and ESP with EMG.
How did these guitar/pickup associations happen? Just simple corporate agreements?
Just a thought exercise, since these associations remain somewhat strong, but history might or might not have been different if the company pairings were shuffled around arbitrarily.
