satin finishes

Just seeing what you guys think of satin finishes. As far as refinishing goes, what are the main differences in applying the finish, top coats, etc.? Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is a satin finish by its self will be softer and more easy to ding. I would go with a couple of gloss coats (I think it is a more durable finish) and then if you want to soften the look, use the satin. Then, again, I like satin sheets.
