I'm about ready to throw a pair of Duncan Distortions into my 750xl and I need different volume and tone pots (EMG's in there now). I figured a 500k volume pot, but what value for the tone?

Re: pot values for humbuckers
you can use another 500k, but usually, it's 250k for tone.

Re: pot values for humbuckers
Generally with HB's, 500k is the standard for both vol. & tone. Interestingly enough, I came across an old article with Seymour Duncan where he was discussing how most companies will use 250k for single coils, and 500k for HB's. He went on to say that any value pot can be used with any pickup, and he encouraged experimenting. He then said he prefers 250k with HB's. I immediately swapped out the 500k's in one of my guitars for 250k's. The result was less highs, with a more bass/mid tone, which sounded great on this particular guitar {79 Schecter Tele'}. So, if you've got a bright sounding HB guitar, put in a set of 250k pots, and you'll notice a distinct difference.
