Some pics of my Sunday afternoon fun. I wanted to see if I could get a defined line starting with an already finished guitar. Like they do at the factory.

I think I got it pretty good. I had to make a custom tool to define the line at the neck base. But overall I think it came pretty good.

Now on to taking the finish off the rest and then the fretboard. If anyone wants I will continue to post some pics.

If anyone has tips I will greatly take them.

Did you only use sandpaper to remove the finish?
Are you going to tung oil it?

Q: Did you only use sandpaper to remove the finish?

A: mostly sandpaper (80, 150, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1500 Sythetic Steel wool), a razor (One of those cheapo orange ones for .69 in the checkout line at Home Depot) on the heel

Q: Are you going to tung oil it?

A: Don't Know yet, I am think of doing the guitar pearl white. I am unsure if a natural wood neck would add appeal to that finish.... hmmmm

A: The frets are shot. I have never had a neck-thu maple. So I am going to peel the board and put on a maple board

A: You really think the neck heal transition came out good??? I will have to take a picture in order to show you in more detail.

Q: what's the darker area at the heel?

A: I am not sure.... There is a bit of that on the neck here and there. I think it is there filler from the factory??? It sands very slowly. In that area I didn't have alot of ways to get in there and really polish it away. When I buffed out the joint it really enhanced it.... Ah-well. When I sand the rest of the guitar this week I'll rid myself of it - hehe

You'd have to ask Chuckracer about that one. I think it belonged to him. I think he stripped the neck on it. Just like Rhmsc8 did [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

He he...well, I was trying to post a pic of that guitar as well as an older Soloist that I stripped the neck on, and for some reason was making a mess of it. So, thanks! [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I think it will - in my book anyway.

I can show you in maybe a weeks time, how a pearl white body/natural neck looks like when i finish my Rhoads project. It will be a thick layer pearl white though, due to some problems i ran into. Kinda champagne/gold-like color. I'll post pictures when she's ready.
