That looks awesome! That is some quality rosewood on that baby. All I can say is WOW!

What kind of blade did you use? I went to our local woodworking store and they had several blades with special curvatures. None looked quite proper to me so I went ahead w/ the sandpaper.
I know you no longer need it... But, I found a 2mm bit!! Not real common are they? but if anyone is interested try this number. 1-800-888-7271 Ask for Pat. They have had every obscure tool I have thus far needed. My father makes the really obscure ones or custom ones that don't exist -haha. Good old dad. Don't tell him I said old. The bit is 20.00 USD.

Neither can I. This is my first attempt at this. Hopefully I don't end up with kindling when I am done.- LOL

You don't need a curved blade for the back of the neck IMO. For stripping the neck i used a normal straight Stanley blade taken from a Stanley knife. I used several.

Had i known what i know now, i would have started out by using a straight cut piece of glass to take the majority of paint. Glass works really fast yet easy to control. Then when the primer starts to show i'd switch to the Stanley blade and take it down to the wood. The blade really makes the wood smooth and even. Then sand with fine grits to finish it.

Don't let the raw neck sit there for too long. I mean, oil it or whatever asap.

Damn, you found a 2mm bit! Why did you look for one - do you need to cut for a blade switch? Any brand name stamped on that bit?

I want to take the rest of the body down first. I want to try and do the neck transition that Chuckracer did. Figure I may as well practice as much as possible on the way down to the body - hehe.

I looked for it to see if I could find it + I just figured for future projects. As wellas the peeps here may need to know where to get them. At least in the U.S. Actually I have to fill my blade slot. I haven't got it yet to see the brand name.

I know my pics stink... but if you look closely at the first primed pic you can see the wood grain. I figured it would go away as I sanded between coats. It didn't

Someone mentioned wood grain filler... I called my local hardware store. The closest thing they have is a oil based sealer and wood conditioner?

Is that what they are talking about?

In order to use it do I have to sand it down to the wood again, Or can I rough sand the current paint and put it over the top and re-shoot it with primer and so on?

I guess I screwed this one up. This is turning in to an expensive lesson

Although I suppose on the bright side... I found out I liked the color changing paint.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Pics - I Hate Red, Neck Project

Wow, I am thinking of doing my red Model 6 in Pearl White w/ flames and an oiled neck. Any more pics of the stripping process? I would love to see what it looks like totally stripped so I know what to expect. Thanks -Frank.

Re: Pics - I Hate Red, Neck Project

I don't have any photos, but I've stripped a bunch, and it's a real job to get that polyester sealer off those guitars, and watch using stripper on them because of the binding. Good luck.

@ Frank

I screwed up... You can see the wood grain as I didn't seal it.

I will be taking it down again. I will get some shots this time.... All and all it wasnt to bad a job. Just time consuming. You run into alot of sealer. I used a palmsander, razor blade and just sandpaper in my hand. about 10,000 hrs later there it was.

Others may be able to tell you better what to expect as I have only done this one guitar. But, I will do my best.

Oh! I forgot to ask....

What do you think of the color changing paint? I know my camera sucks but, it gives a little bit of an idea. I think it is kinda cool. Little too purple for me. Not what I thought when I heard magentta.
