My first shim

So Ed suggested i shim my bolt-on Jackson due to the new saddles causing my action to be too high from the 12th fret and on. I did it and it worked, but I still would like it to be normal. Is it normal to put two shims stacked on top of each other? or should I get a different material that is thicker to get my desired action?

I talked to a technician at Floyd Rose who suggested these saddles. I bought them, they seem to be exactly the same size as the original, but inside, where the strings lays down (where the string locking screw clamps on ) it's much higher. I could try to with another set of saddles but i don't have money to keep blowing on it since nobody seems to know where to buy the original.

What was the bridge originally?. What exact saddles did you replace with? Can you adjust action from the bridge? Is the radius still right?

I don't know what the the original bridge was. I just emailed Jackson support to hopefully able to find that out.

The radius is right.

I can adjust action from the bridge but lowering through the studs, but the FR body bottoms out and I can't pull up that far on it.

Machine the saddles shorter

how do I do that? with what kind of machine?

If your a hobbyist and your hands are steady a belt sander to get it close. piece of glass and sandpaper to finish. if you were a machinist you would use a surface grinder or an end mill.

I'm usually pretty adventurous but I think I'd do a Stewmac shim before I started grinding saddles.

I found a really good shim through some veneer edging at a local lumber shop. But when I put it in, it made the guitar sound "weird" power chords 7th-10th fret sounded like they were dying out.
I contacted Jackson a few days ago to see exactly what saddles were on my original but they haven't gotten back to me
