to paint a rosewood fretboard a differnt color. imthinking of painting a graphic on my guitar, and having it carry over into the fretboard.

You might notice a difference in "feel" though, I'd say. After you paint the board, you'd probably want to protect your artwork by clearcoating it or whatever, and you might feel the finish when you play. I THINK some maple boards have finish on them so I THINK it might end up feeling like that. -
