tightening the rod will give you more back bow (less relief). So if your sighting down the neck and it looks like the headtock is pullingtoward the bridge, tighten it a little bit at a time until it is straighter. Most people like to wait a few hours (up to a day) between re-adjustings, but you can usually "help" the neck a little by bending it slightly your self. In regular playing position, reach across your body with your right hand, grab the neck in the 10-12 fret area and give it a slight tug while pulling back on the headstock tip with your left hand. It doesn't take a whole lot of force and you will see the neck flex a bit. Alot of people recommend detuning the strings a bit first too.
