New SL2H w/ cardboard under the nut??????

Has anyone else ever received a new Jackson w/ thin ripped up pieces of cardboard under the nut to stop buzz at the first fret..... Am I loosing it here, or is there something wrong with this picture?

Some of the pieces have even been colored w/ a black magic marker to hide them.


I didn't think a new guitar would come that way, am I wrong?

it's a shim; if that wasn't in there, you'd have open string buzz. totally normal, but there's better things to use.

On a new guitar the adjustment to the wood still may need to be done... I would have expected a better job though

All-Parts sells nicer metal shims that'll slip under the lock-nut,much better than f'n cardboard!!

Cardboard colored with a marker sounds pretty lame to me. I would expect better on a new USA Jackson.

The nut was raised up.... I was curious why. So I removed it to find the cardboard. That's all. I simply found it odd. Point taken - [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I remember the first time I found a shim under a guitar neck. It just fell out and, at the time, I had no idea what it was. I put the guitar back together without it. It didn't take long for me to figure out what it was. Shims are a necessary evil.

Not if it's done right the first time. When you're building a bunch of guitars at once, some of them are bound to be different. In a perfect world, the platform for the nut would be done specifically for each guitar and not the same for every guitar.
