newb question on pickguard screws and brass

on a brass hardware adorned guitar, if it had a pickguard, would the pickguard screws be brass as well? is the fender gold pickguard screws on stewmac an ok substitute?

how come stewmac + guitar hardware these days aren't available in brass anymore?
