hadn't really thought about the Carvin thing, but then they do 25" scale (which I know nothing about other than it's 1.5" different than what I'm used to

You're used to 23.5" scale, or was that 26.5" scale? Kidding! I knew what you meant.

Hey, neckthrough's fine with me - hadn't really thought about the Carvin thing, but then they do 25" scale (which I know nothing about other than it's 1.5" different than what I'm used to ) and I don't know if I can get a blank boarded paddlehead. It's definitely gotta say Jackson, and I'd rather it be done with Jackson parts.
Plus, I don't want a neckthrough Newcenstein and a Custom Shop bolt-on - something about that just ain't right

And yeah, Ron, I ain't the one doing the work - I gotta find someone willing ot tackle this project, which is why I asked for opinions on the easiest method - I figured the one that would do it would speak up and pick the method they'd use

Last time I checked (and I checked very recently,) Carvin 7 strings and 7 string neck through blanks are 25.5" scale dude....same with their bolt ons...Only the 6 string neck throughs are 25" scale.

All you have to do is add a "K" after the model number(NT7K) to get the oversize blank headstock.

Ewwwwwww - DOTS!

And though I was really serious before about me having to find someone with the tools and the skillz to do this, I might just need someone to split the body.

I got to thinking about my Custom Shop order, and they said they'd hafta hand-build the body (no jigs), so I assume they are keeping the same distance from the edge of the board/heel to the horns. To do that, you need a wider body, so I may as well go with splitting the body and putting in a centerblock, since it'll be similar to the construction of the Custom.

Screw it, I don't have the skill or the tools to do this, and my brain hurts from trying to figure out a better way to do it - who wants the job of performing a #2 on a WRXT body?

Re: Extensive body conversion project

# 3 would be your best option in my opinion. The neck-pocket, pickup route and trem routes are already done properly for a 7 Stringer. IMHO slicing off the wings of both bodies and then gluing them on the center plank are easy, 4 strait cuts and a glue job sounds easy enough to me.

Re: Extensive body conversion project

LOL, EVERYTHING Newc cooks up SOUNDS easy, but it just always seems to turn out a bit different than what most expect

If I were you, Newc, I´d also go nr 3...grab a DR7 body, saw it off just outside the cavities and posts. do the same with the WR body, and glue the 3 pieces back together...in theory you could even do it without ever removing the neck from the DInky center block (Uh oh, ehm, Newc, forget I said that last part, I don´t wanna be giving you that kind of bright idea )

Yeah I thought about that, but the main snag is that the Wolbers DK7 body is arched, so there's going to be a major alignment issue with the front horns.

Plus the WOlbers DK is a TOM, not trem. I DID consider picking up a JS30WR body, but so far haven't seen one on Ebay.

That Carvin plank is looking more and more inviting, but it's still wrong on so many levels to have a Jackson Custom Shop bolt-on and a Newcenstein neckthrough

I'll take a number 2 on the WRXT body. You may not like the color, though.
I say go for the Carvin neck. I'm pretty sure you can get MOP or abalone blocks on it instead of dots.

The Carvin neckthrough blank is of great quality. My budding luthier friend built a neckthrough monster with incredible fret access using one of those blanks. I think he shaved the heel even deeper than pictured in my previous post in this thread to allow this. It doesn't get thick until the 24th fret.
