  • Kahler steeler/spyder in standard Floyd route?

My Charvel 4 has a non recessed Floyd and I can get a very interesting deal on a Kahler Spyder or Steeler (Floyd ish designs and most threads concern Kahler designs. Would they fit my pole spacing or would I need to have some holes dug? I can't find their specs anywhere :s

The Spyder is quite different to the Floyd, and will not fit. The Steeler however is a perfect fit.

Thank you! How is the spyder different? And how will the Steller be better than my JT6? Quality only?

Sorry, I should read properly. I didn't notice that you said it is non-recessed. I can't remember if the Spyder spacing is the same. I can measure one when I get home if you like.

Also, you should know that the trem block on Spyders is quite large, and might get in the way, and restrict the movement of the trem.

The Steeler has the fine tuners on the top like a Floyd does. The only real difference between a Floyd and the Steeler, is that the Steeler's saddles are all the same height. It is the baseplate that is stepped to accomodate the curve of the fretboard.

The Spyder looks very different, and has a cast body rather than a flat, stamped baseplate. They are very heavy, and hard to find parts for.

They work well, but I would go with the Steeler if I were you. I have both, and the Steeler is better in my opinion.

One other thing about the Steeler. Instead of the saddles screws threading into the baseplate, the saddle screws actually come from behind the baseplate, and are left-hand threaded into the bottom of the saddles. You still adjust them from the top, but there is no chance of stripping them.

Thanks! Yeah the Steeler seems more attractive now. Seems like it'd bring me less problems if problems there will be.
