Difference between Rosewood and bound rosewood ?

I've seen decriptions of rosewood and bound rosewood fingerboards, does anyone know whats the difference between Rosewood and bound rosewood fretboard is?

Basically, the fretboard on your USA fusion is bound, and the fretboard on your Model 2 isn't. The binding is that little stip of white plastic that goes arround the fretboard and sometimes to headstock.

hmmm........and I always thought it meant that the fretboard was glued tighter to the neck.
