Cleaning the back of eZ-bOb's neck.

The back of eZ-bOb's neck is very dirty, and I have acquired som linseed oil to oil it(traded a star wars dvd for it). But what should I clean it with before oiling? I have searched high and low for steel wool, but none havve crossed my path. What should I use? I don't think that neck has been cleaned for 4-5 years. It has no finish(raw)

arggh. I fixed it. Used some steel wool with built in soap. it was a foam dream coming true for me. shapash.......

plain ol wood cleaner for me. minwax makes it.
