    Re: Taping pickups?

I think my sister beat up that guy in the picture.

Putting tape over your neck pickup will not have any effect on your tone(as long as it's non-conductive tape). Like Charvel750 said, pickups work by creating a magnetic field around your strings, tape does not affect this.

However, IMO it looks incredibly lame. If you're not having trouble with strings getting caught, why bother? If you have a hole where you took the neck pickup out, does a piece of tape look any better? I cover the hole with a sticker if I feel I need to.

If all pickups came with a plastic ring around them like the bill lawrence pickups we wouldnt have to deal with this.

the question is: why do you what to put the tape on the pickup? can't think why I would like to do that.

Its necessary to do this to prevent the string from catching on the lip of the pickup due to heavy handed technique and or floyd rose use. Happens quite a bit. Its not a matter of sloppy technique eitehr in my opinion, as vai, and paul gilbert both do this

Hold Back The Forces of Magnets would be a good band name
