Some guitars have a Floyd nut and a string tension bar to keep peghead tension on the strings to the tuners. This bar seems redundant.

If I use the bar, it will impact the choice of truss rod cover I can use (the cover would have to fit under the bar).

On some guitars, yes you do need the bar to hold the strings down firmly against the bottom of the nut, or else if you tighten the lock screws the tuning goes out of whack. The best thing is to install the nut and tighten the lock, if the tuning stays the same you are OK, but if the tuning goes up, then it would be wise to use the bar.

If you do need the bar, you can probably modify the existing t-rod cover to work.

The bar is necessary on non or lightly angled headstocks to keep string pressure before locking, otherwise locking the nut will throw the tuning off farther than the fine tuners can compensate for [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Basicaly, strathead... needs the bar.
