Help with wiring SD pickups with Jackson switch

I'm stumped with this one. I removed the Jackson pickups out of a 750XL which was working fine, and made this little wiring diagram before I pulled them out. I wired the Duncans the same way, and positions 2&4 have almost inaudible output. Positions 1, 3 and 5 work fine. Are SD and Jackson pickup color codes the same?
I looked at the JCF wiring diagram here, but I think it is wired a little different.

Yes, by chance Duncan and Jackson pickup wire colors are identical [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Can´t help you with teh diagram, though, because it looks like you have a funky switch I´m not familiar with and want splitting in the 2 and 4 positions.....

Even though the wire colors appear the same with Duncans and Jacksons, it could be that they are wound reverse or have reverse polarity magnets, as it seems everytime I mate a duncan with a Jackson pickup, I have to put the Green of the duncan to hot and the Black of the duncan to ground to get the two pickups 'in-phase' with each other. I just got a '87 USA dinky with a jackson single and a duncan JB in it. Neck pickup alone sounded great, bridge pickup alone sounded great, putting the 3-way switch in the middle (ie both pickups on) I had no bass/lower output (the classic finding when pickups are out of phase). I opened the control cover and saw they wired the JB just like Duncan says, green=ground, black=hot. I reversed the green and black wires, and it works perfect now.

This doesn't necessarily answer your question as you are using 2 duncans, but I pointed this out, as maybe Jackson and Duncan are different in the red and white wires. We know the red and white are the end winding of one coil and the beginning of the next coil.

I would try swapping the position of the red and white wires of one pickup where they attach to the switch and then see what you get. Only takes a minute to try.

You could also leave the red & white wires alone and swap the green and black wires on one pickup just to see what you get.

Doing the above experiments are quick, and you just might luck into a combo that works for ya!

I can wire those Jackson Special 5-way switches, but never according to their diagram, and never the same way twice [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
It also takes me about 3 hours and a handful of jumper leads to find the connections I need. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

With the Special 5-way like that, each position is a totally independent connection, not merely a bridge between the others like a standard 5-way.
If 1, 3, and 5 work fine, and you want splitting on 2 and 4, then you have to wire the tap wires of each pickup (red+white in this case) to the tabs that govern those 2 positions.

I'm going to break out the soldering iron today, hopefully I can get it working correctly. I wish all these guys would use the color codes the same way! That would make life a lot easier!!!

Hmmm, looking at your diagram again it appears they wired it up so that both pickups are tapped AND active at the same points (where the white wires meet - one coil of each pickup rather than one pickup tapped by itself on the 2 and 4, and not both pickups on full).
If you do decide to wire them up exactly like the old ones were (following your diagram), you can swap one pickup's red and white wires around to affect the phase.

The fix turned out to be really simple - I swapped the red and white on both pickups, and it works the way it is supposed to. I should have tried that in the first place! LOL
