Re: Tung Oil vs. Gunstock Oil
I just recently did the neck on my GMW with gunstock oil and then with the gunstock wax, and it came out great!
Birchwood Casey is the company. I was using Linseed oil , but I like this much better. Jackson/Charvel use gunstock oil on their necks as does Ernie Ball.If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

It's been a month and it still stinks

i had that problem once; i rebuffed the neck and it took care of it. does your hand smell like linseed oil after you play it? if so, you may still have some remnants in the wood.
offhand, do you remember if you used boiled linseed or plain linseed oil? the regular stuff dries slower.

Re: Tung Oil vs. Gunstock Oil
Birchwood Casey Gun stock oil (Tru-Oil) is actually a varnish. I finished an entire guitar with it. It’s a nice finish with a satin feel but not quite a smooth as tung oil mainly because it builds up on the wood’s surface. Tung oil is a penetrating finish thus tung oil finished necks retain more of a raw wood feel. Tru oil will effectively seal wood though (I know someone who uses it to finish canoe paddles) so if this is a major concern it’s a good option.

I use a sealer/wax that is used on pool cue shafts. I figure if it can keep a pool cue slick in the smokiest and sweatiest of bars, it will do the same for a guitar neck.-Lou" I do not pay women for sex. I pay for them to leave after the sex ". -Wise words of Charlie Sheen

Re: Tung Oil vs. Gunstock Oil
I recently discovered MinWax "Wipe On Poly" in Satin as a fantastic neck finish. It is very easy to use, offers great protection for the wood, looks very nice, and feels better than any neck I've felt (I do have a neck that I did with gun stock oil, too, and that one is OK, but not as smooth as the necks done with Wipe On Poly.
