Material to shim nut?

I have used various methods in the past to shim a nut (bone, plastic or corian nut, not a locking nut), with varying levels of success. What are some other options?

Clear cellophane off a CD, or cigeratte pack. It's tough and very thin...perfect for those "damn near" nuts.

This particular nut should come up about half a millimetre, so I need something substantial.
