Jackson Active Electronics - weak, replace w/EMG?

Okay, I got a great deal on a USA Fusion (thanks again to The Eristic!), but is there something I don't understand about the electronics? I put a fresh battery in, but I still can't tell a really noticeable difference between the two toggle switch positions.

I played the Fusion EX with EMG's next to it and the output difference was night and day.

Is there something else I need to know, or are these pickups sort of weak?
