Refinishing

How hard is it to do a refinish of say normal paint to like, a Orange quilted maple veneer?

Where would I purchase good quilted maple top laminates? and how would I joint them? Just glue?

I would want to get this professinally done if I do this in the future, but its sooooo expensive hehe might be worth it though =[
