If your shop is doing the grain filler part, i would prepare the guitar like this (no matter the wood type):

1. sanding it with 220 grit until smooth
2. wipe it off with a slightly wet cloth (making it slightly wet)
3. let the wood dry - the wood grain will raise
4. repeat step 1 - 3 until you get tired and then some...

Yeah, I was gonna raise the grain, but I was more interested in final grit. I would think I should prep the body with something finer than 220, as a final grit. I thought more like 400 would be more appropriate.

Okay, a quote from Sully:

"as far as using finer grits goes, well you certainly want to use the lower grits on the primer (400 and 600 wet), but the only time i'd ever use 320 on a color coat is if i wanted to remove it. as you progress in the paint process, your grits escalate; 220 - 320 for bare wood, 400-600 for primer, 800 - 1000 for color, 1200 - 2500 for clear."

So, I guess 220 isn't such a bad idea, but 320 is still good, too. I KNEW I'd seen it, here.

Yep, sully is the man. 220. 320. Not a huge difference.
Don't touch the wood too much with your bare hands after final sanding. Oil from your hands won't help the subsequent sealer.
