  • Dunlop 6000 fretwire?

    Hi

I know that those are the biggest frets dunlop makes - used by yngwie and joe stump - as i just ordered my 7'string (i told the builder the basic specs) i'm still considering the fret size - thinking either 6000 or maybe 6100/6150 - but rather leaning to the 6000 - anyone has any experience with them ? how do they compare to the Jackson jumbos ?

I thought 6100 was the biggest size possible? I've never heard of 6000

here you go - to be honest i haven't heard about them much - just read that Yngwie and Stump use them and that they're the biggest - searched for them and voila - there are in a couple of online stores.

And how would you compare the 6100 to jackson fretwire ?

I think it's essentially bass fretwire..to tell you the truth, I think playing 6000-6100 is like driving over railroad ties. (ok, a little exaggerated) but sometimes you can feel every bump. On a scalloped board.. that would probably be great as it required a lighter touch anyways.

Unless you can get used to rather tall frets, 6150 would be a better choice to Jackson.

I think 6000's are what came stock on my previous '91 Hamer Claifornian Elite. IMO, they were only good for those that noodle endlessly ala Yngwie and like a scalloped feel. If you riff like Dimebag, they are like railroad ties and they get in the way. The frets were the reason I sold an amazing guitar otherwise.

          Try this chart for comparison:

I'd say 6100. I remember playing an SL2H a while ago and the frets on my Fender feel very very similar to the SL2H that i played.

I thought soloists used something a little smaller, like a 6150?

6105 is my favorite.....6100 tall but narrower.
